As Term 2 nears completion, we have been working on completing our various projects. We have all begun working on our final opinion essay in writing, decimals and fractions in math, how matter changes in science, extreme weather in our nonfiction reading, as well as exploring South Korea in our social studies unit. Speaking of social studies - we will be having presentations on our created maps this coming Tuesday. Students have been instructed to present to their classmates in their groups. They will use what they learn to complete a test on the following Tuesday - December 12th. We will also have a math test on Wednesday, December 13. Details to follow. Finally, students should bring their costumes for the winter concert to school on Monday. Details below. Have a great weekend!

Hello everyone and Happy American Thanksgiving!
A short week this week. We capped it off with some turkey soup - see pictures in our photo gallery. Throughout the week we worked on a number of projects - finished up our writing, talked about prime and composite numbers in math, as well as introduced open sentences and order of operations. For some extra help, check out the order of operations video in the math videos tab. In science, we finished discussing elements and took a quiz, while in reading we went through our second round of nonfiction books and text structures. Next week, we will be working on decimals in math, our second opinion essay in writing, our developed piece in social studies, more nonfiction analysis in reading, and looking at changes in matter in science. Have a great weekend everyone! - Mr. Baker Hello everyone!
I hope you all had a great week! We certainly did in Grade 4! We have been introduced to the table of periodic elements in Science class. We are watching a great video investigating the properties of the elements throughout the next week or so that has been getting our imagination moving and our questions flowing! I do not normally do this, but I would love to suggest this book as a great coffee table book for home. I just ordered one for me, too! I ordered it here. Students do not need to have this book, I'm simply making a suggestion. But if you want to support future scientists, this book would be a great addition to the home library, and of interest to parents and kids alike. In Reading we have been busily working on identifying the text structures we began to talk about last week. Both in groups and on their own, students have been recording how text structures are used to inform readers. In Math we continue to furiously practice and quiz ourselves on multiplication while taking some time to work on division and number stories. I have added some more math videos to help with math facts in our math videos section. In Social Studies we are entering the final stage of our province project, while in Writing, we are finishing up our first opinion pieces. I hope you have a great weekend. I want to remind you of a couple of items. Next week, we will have a shorter week for the Thanksgiving break. Students are going to be dismissed early on Thursday - they will be let out of the classroom at 12:55 and the buses depart at 1. Please be prepared. Friday will be a day off as well! Enjoy! Also, I have suggested that students may bring in earbuds or headphones to use on their chromebooks for independent work. Again, it is not necessary, but they will be put to use. Nothing too expensive please - inexpensive ones are fine. Grade 4 Students and Parents,
We have had a great week of hard work. Well done class! Everyone has made progress in their multiplication math facts during Math class. We have also been investigating flight times throughout the world. In Science we continue to investigate matter and its properties leading to a project they are doing at home. The matter project is due next Tuesday. In reading we began to study different text structures that authors use when writing nonfiction. We have been reading and taking notes on a number of texts. Keep it up ladies and gentlemen! In Social Studies, students have decided to elaborate their provincial research to include popular places to visit such as museums, mountains, and amusement parks. They have been demonstrating strong teamwork skills and a genuine interest in their project. Great!! Have a great weekend!! Hello everyone!
I hope you all had a great weekend, at Songdo 7s or otherwise! It was lovely to meet those of you who were able to make it on Friday. As I stated, you are welcome to stop by anytime with any questions or concerns. Thank you!! Last week we continued our Spirit Week. Please see the photos tab for Halloween and Misfit pictures. Academically, we continued planning our opinion pieces in writing, multiplication facts quizzes have begun, and we have been adding to our science interactive notebooks. Everyone has been on task and working hard. Keep it up everyone! This coming week we will have a visit from the fire department on Tuesday. I will update you on that next week! Mr. Baker |
