Happy Monday everyone!
Last week we had a busy week preparing for the end of Term 1. Finally, we capped of the week with our Jog-a-thon / Fall Fest. We are so proud of parents and and students alike for their enthusiastic involvement. Well done, Dalton family! This week we have been busy getting things done before the Chuseok break. In Science, we have been discussing the do's and don'ts of working with electricity while seeing just how we get our lights to turn on. In Social Studies we have been applying what we have learned while learning new things about the Later Silla period. Students have begun to work on a slide project in their groups. In Math, we tested our knowledge of tripe digit addition and subtraction and started a unit on data and how we organize our information. In Writing we continue to work on our stories - getting closer and closer to publishing; while in Reading we have finished The Tiger Rising and look forward to our written response after the Chuseok break. I wish you all a wonderful break! Enjoy! Mr. Baker p.s. Here is a picture of our recently formed recess book club enjoying a lunch with scary stories. Hello everyone! Not too much to update you with this week as we have spent a fair amount of time with our MAP testing. I'm happy to report that we are all done and I am looking forward to seeing the results so that I may better know how to best help your children and my students. I am happy to report that our students were well-focused and took MAP seriously. Well done guys! Again, taking a MAP test, it is not expected to get every question right, but to help determine where you are academically - to see with which skills you are proficient, and where you need to give a little more focus. In Math we have continued to work on our two, three, and four digit addition using partial sums and column addition. Please check out the MATH VIDEOS tab for a refresher! In Social Studies, we examined the Early Silla period, how the mountainous region helped with their defense and how trade allowed them to foster a good relationship with the Tang dynasty in what is now China. Next week we will be back to academic norms. Have a great weekend!!
In Math we have been using two methods - partial sums and column addition, to solve double and triple digit problems.
In Science, we took some time to review and rethink about how light and sound move. While in Social Studies, we have been learning about the three kingdoms - with emphasis on Goguryeo. Next week, we will learn more about Silla! Next week, our students will be completing the first round of MAP tests. If you're want more information on MAP tests, click here. We will be testing on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please be sure that your child is well rested and fed to keep energy levels high! We will also have Library Day on Wednesday. Visit the FP Weebly for more information. Thank you everyone! Hello everyone! Another exciting week in Grade 4. In Math we took some time to learn about how to use our Student Resource book as well as place value while sneaking in some double digit multiplication. Students must continue to do XtraMath everyday! In Reading, we have been thinking about characters, how they act, and how they can change throughout the story. This growth is important to help our students grow themselves. I have been delighted with the general responses to inquiry. Well done guys! In Writing, we have tackled two areas - first, editing our weekend journals. Students have been using the grammar posters to aid their writing. For our Writing classes, we have been adjusting our small moment stories to sound more like stories, and less like journals. This process will go on throughout the next couple of weeks. In Tech, Mr. Bray joined us to start setting up our google site portfolios. He will be joining us every Thursday, until we are ready to work on our own. Thank you Mr. Bray! In Science and Social Studies, I have focused fully on Science this week and thus will spend next week on Social Studies. We have had a successful week working in our science stations about light and sound. You can see a few pictures over in the photos tab but I will save most for their portfolios. Looking ahead, After next week we will be looking at magnets in Grade 4. I am posting a magnets video on the science page. We will be having Library day on September 13. Please clear your schedule and check here for more details. Also, I have added a link to a great online dictionary that our students are free to use. Check the front page. Have a great weekend everyone! - Mr. Baker - Hello everyone! I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
